Ah, Valentine’s Day: the time of year when everyone in a relationship scrambles to find a gift for their better half. For those of us in a long-term relationship, it can be an especially tricky holiday because coming up with a gift every year that is both thoughtful and unique is no easy feat. In fact, it’s downright hard.
So, what’s a person to do? One of the best ways to ensure your Valentine’s Day gift is meaningful, as well as different from previous years, is to make it yourself, and in this post, I’ll introduce you to 10 DIY gift ideas that will have your special someone smiling from ear to ear.
Romantic Coupon Book
Give the gift that keeps on giving with a romantic coupon book. From breakfast in bed to dinner out to a night in with movies and popcorn, create a custom booklet of redeemable coupons. And thanks to templates such as this one on Etsy, you needn’t have a background in graphic design — simply purchase the digital file, edit it, and then print it. Voila!

LEGO Botanicals Bouquet of Roses
I know what you’re thinking: a LEGO kit? That’s not a homemade gift. Yes, but also, no. Sure, you aren’t crafting the individual LEGO pieces, but you are assembling them. So, if not homemade, it is handmade.
What I love about this LEGO bouquet is that, unlike an actual bouquet, it will never wilt or brown. It will be just as lovely a decade from now. If you aren’t a fan of roses, LEGO offers a whole assortment of other bouquets and flower sets.
“I Love You” Cross Stitch
Don’t just tell your Valentine you love them; stitch it. This beginner-friendly kit includes everything you need, except a pair of scissors.
“I Love Your Stupid Face” Cross Stitch
Feeling a bit cheeky? Then, how about this “I Love Your Stupid Face” cross stitch? I, personally, would be flattered to receive this.
Love-Themed Punch Needle
If you’d like to craft something, but are feeling somewhat intimidated by cross-stitch, then allow me to introduce you to one of the easiest crafts to pick up: punch needling. The most difficult part of punch needling is threading the needle, which, in all honesty, isn’t that challenging. Once your needle is threaded, it’s off to the races — just start punching the needle through the fabric to fill in the design.
This Valentine’s Day-themed punch needle kit from The Modern Crafter on Etsy allows you to pick either three or six beginner-friendly (and super cute) designs, and it includes everything you’ll need, from the yarn to the fabric to the punch needle itself.
Reasons-Why-I-Love-You Jar
If you’re looking for a last-minute gift that’s easy to put together, then stop scrolling. All you need to make this gift is a Mason jar, some paper, and a pen. Simply cut the paper into strips, and then on each strip, write one reason why you love your significant other. In terms of the Mason jar, you can go as big or as small as your heart desires, and if you’re feeling fancy, you can buy a vintage Mason jar (just make sure to clean it properly). You can also buy kits from Etsy that come with a personalized jar and pre-cut pieces of paper (I’ve linked to one such kit below).

Pott’d Paint-a-Mug
Make your valentine a one-of-a-kind mug with a Paint-a-Mug kit from Pott’d. Simply paint on your design, and then bake the mug in the oven. The kit comes with everything you need: a mug, paints, and paint brushes.

Bake a Tasty Treat
As the saying goes, food is the way to a person’s heart, so what better way to show your love than with a delicious baked goodie? There are tons of cookbooks and food blogs to draw inspiration from, but if you want some recommendations, I’m partial to The King Arthur Baking Company’s All-Purpose Baker’s Companion and Taste of Home’s Complete Guide to Baking.
Custom Calendar
Create a custom calendar filled with photos of the two of you. Shutterfly has a ton of different designs and layouts to choose from, so whether you want a classic wall calendar or a more modern easel calendar, you’ll find something you love.
“Open When” Letters
And last but not least, write a series of letters that your other half should open at specific times, such as when they receive the letters or when they miss you. Dreamy Decoration Co. on Etsy allows you to create a personalized set of “open when” envelopes, so all you have to do is write the letters — they even provide the blank notecards.
I hope this post has helped you in your Valentine’s Day gift search, but more importantly, I hope you have a wonderful Valentine's Day! For even more gift-giving inspiration, check out my other gift guides.
