2025 was not a great reading year for me. The issue was not with how much I read but rather what I read. Too many of the books this year left me disappointed or, at best, indifferent. When all was said and done, only two made it onto my list of favorite reads of the year.

Phantasma by Kaylie Smith

The book Phantasma laid flat atop a white table.

Phantasma is a refreshingly original and highly atmospheric tale featuring a deadly game and a forbidden love. If you liked Caraval but wished it were a tad darker and a lot spicier, then you’ll love this book. Full review forthcoming.

Onyx Storm by Rebecca Yarros

The book Onyx Storm laid flat atop a table

This third installment in the Empyrean series is a return to form. From its non-stop action to its sense of adventure and romance, Onyx Storm is a captivating read that will leave you chomping at the bit for the next book. Full review forthcoming.

And that’s it! Hopefully, my list next year will be longer 🤞

What were your favorite reads of 2025? Let me know in the comments!
